Pain Scale
Ever been asked by a doctor to rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain you can image. How do you do that, whats a 4 or 5 or 6. How can he or she compare your 7 from another's 4. I think it is meaningless and it is just something they ask to look like they are doing something.
Here is my own scale my own interpretation
- No pain
- If I think about it there is pain in the background
- If I am not distracted by something there is some pain
- There is always pain but I can still function without difficulty
- There is always pain but I can still function
- There is always pain, I can still mostly function but I cannot concentrate on complex tasks, I wouldn't want to drive
- I just want to lie in bed, maybe watch TV, I'll get up to eat
- I'll get out of bed to go to the bathroom
- If there were a fire I would get out of bed and stumble out of the house
- If there were a fire I would breath deeply and hope the smoke got to me first
