Noah's Favorite Networking References
The following is a list of networking references that I refer to. I find that I need a centralized location for places that I go to all the time. Yes I know that that is what the "favorites" tab is for, but I routinely use, 3 different systems and have another 3 that I am on frequently if less than routinely. I won't mention the number of systems that I am on only occasionally. Keeping all those systems in sync is a pain so here is my list.

These are servers that let you do a traceroute or a ping from them back to your or to any other host. They are a great way to confirm if a problem reaching a host is at your end or the host's end. It also lets you estimate route trip time.
- SenderBase keeps track of domains that are sending E-mails. It is used by spam blockers. One thing you can do is search a domain and see how much mail hosts in that domain are sending.

The phone system
- LincMad Telephone Area Codes and Splits Maps of area codes, history of changes and planned changes
- North American Numbering Plan (NANP) has a bunch of information about the phone system
- area code maps
- exchange locator Locate an exchange within an area code. It limits you to only 5 lookups within a 48 hour period but it is the only site I have found that does this.
- DNSstuff.comlocation a phone number. US phone numbers can be located by area code and exchange (enter AAA-XXX-NNNN under "Area Code & ZIP Lookup). International (or US) phone numbers by country code (enter +CC-NUMBER under Phone Lookup)
- World Telephone Numbering Guide lists a bunch of information about telehone dialing across the world. My primary use is the international dialing prefixes but there is other stuff as well
- fone finder Another tool to find the location of phone numbers. Also will search for exchanges based on zip code, city name, does international searches as well.

History
- Wayback MachineThis site archives web sites, if what you found last week isn't there this week try here.
- If you have a web page reference (URL) that doesn't appear to exist anymore or the information has changed and no longer contains what you are looking for try looking through the google cache by searching for cache:URL. No spaces between the directive cache: and the start of the URL. For example: cache:www.stratus.com
